"Prejudice is a disease we can never get rid of". Discuss. (CJC Promos03)
The definition of prejudice, from oxford dictionary, is as such, "unreasonable dislike and distrust of people who are different from you in some way”. And the definition of disease is “something that is seriously wrong with society or someone’s mind which can kill or destroy”.
Let’s look at prejudices as a disease in our society. Some examples from the past would be the racial riots in Singapore in 1964 between the Malays and Chinese in Singapore. The riots killed many innocent lives. In addition, the riots also almost destroy the country as it leads to foreign intervention. And luckily, India did not succeed in doing so. However it still shows the danger of having prejudice in our country, hence prejudice is concluded to be a disease.
Next, addressing to the question, I agree that prejudice can never be removed. Some ways to remove prejudice in Singapore is the blog rules and regulations. People who have sensitive and negative comments on to their blog will be fined. However it can only solve the surface to the problems. It does not go deep into the roots to pluck it out.
I think that I ideas haven been instilled into out mindset through upbringing. For example the white women who live in a community which accepted derogatory terms didn’t know they were racist. And black women would feel safer with the white man. People are mostly being stereotype. For example, African America cannot be a degree holder.
Since the ideas of prejudices have been instilled into people’s heart, it is a very difficult task to influence the person as we are all from prejudiced families. It cannot be totally uprooted. Only the negative impacts of prejudice could be prevented by educating people to allow them to think in a more mature way. But the idea in the public’s mind of prejudice can never be removed, unless they are being brainwashed by some major events.

Finally, here is my second posting on my GP blog. I didnt update this blog because i'm not confident in my English, hence, do not want to let people to "have a good laugh" about my blog.
“YouTube has no ethics; it's been created for the sole purpose of entertainment and money.” Do you agree?
Youtube is founded by three young man to allow people to watch videos on the site without the need to download any software or even register. In short, it basically provides convenience for the public to watch videos.
I agree that youtube has no ethics. It can be obviously seen though the large number of videos uploaded which show insult, disrespect and prejudice (i.e. racism, sexism and etc). One very good example will be the video uploaded by the Swiss man, showing graffiti over the Thailand Government. This had also led to rise of arguments over the media and result in banning of youtube in Thailand. The Swiss guy is also caught and jailed.
A number of the people uploading those videos might be in the thought of "Oh, this video is interesting, I shall share it wih the public so that everyone else can have a good laugh." However, unaware of the sensative society out there, they posted the videos "innocently". Sometimes it also depends on the people viewing the video. Some videos are obviously uploaded for "a laugh". But they turn n twist the rationale of posting the video until it is really trying to imply prejudice.
In conclusion, youtube has no ethics, mainly due to the notorious people who likes to be racist and sexist, the small group of people who thought that people will have a good laugh and forget about it, and lastly, the sensative society. I think something must really be done to the "rules and regulations" of youtube. Maybe, like blogger, there can fine people who upload those very sensative topics which is non-ethical. But again, who is there to judge the sensativity of the videos? The sensative public? If it is, i think there will no longer be any funny videos to watch on youtube anymore.

Introduction of the BlOg
It feels weird having to start a GP blog. This is because I’m not used to typing in English, let alone proper English. Those who know me better will find that I tend to write my posts in both English and Chinese. I'm also more used to typing in short form due to the large amount of time I spend on chatting online, dating back to the day I was introduced to the internet. That adds to the difficulty I face in starting off a GP blog.
I spent a lot of time reading through my friends’ blogs before I actually started typing this entry. I noted many ideas from my friends, such as the use of their “Friendster” testimonials as part of their introduction. Others talked about the activities they’ve engaged in over the March holidays. However, since I don’t have a friendster account, and my March holidays have not been very interesting, I shall not use either method.
Introduction of Myself
Hi everybody. My name is LiRong. (It is a common name, and I see how much more common it is as I enter JC)
I was from Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School. Now, I’m in Anderson JC, class 30/07(this is not fixed yet, as I’m appealing for another subject combination. However, I haven’t received a reply as of yet). My birthday is on 12th of June, and I’m currently 16 years old, going on 17.
Here is some information I obtained from an email that talks about the traits of a Gemini such as myself.
“Turn on Gemini is a highly intellectual and versatile person. If you have a Gemini partner you have to match your wits with his wits to keep the zing in the relation. They want to be mentally stimulated so you have to be good in conversing. Your sense of humor will get you a permanent residence place in the heart of a Gemini. Be more communicative with them and if you are good in this then you will never know how hours pass by with you holding each other’s hand. "
"Turn offs Gemini’s like to do many things at the same time so if unfortunately you are the types who is looking for stability you may get disappointed. Do not hold back a Gemini or you may lose him, as they are restless and need change in life constantly. You should try to adopt yourself with the ever-changing Gemini. Orthodox or conservative old fashion ideas are no-no in their dictionary. Change with the ever-changing Gemini and do not flow against the current.”
I think that the above information is not 100% reliable. So I choose to elaborate on introducing myself.
Here are some of the words that I find suitable to describe myself. I’m choosy, fussy, talkative, temperamental, funny, a daydreamer, stubborn, sensitive, easily bored and hurt, and always want the best.
What I Love
I like movies, comedies, jokes, variety show, smiles, music, singing, watching people dance, songs, friends, piano, hugs and of course, my family!
I prefer soothing music. Even though I don’t take any courses in piano and thus don’t know how to play many songs, I still enjoy playing the piano! I love to watch television programmes, especially variety shows from Taiwan because they adequately entertain me and have the ability to cause me to laugh non-stop despite the huge pile of stressful homework begging me to complete them. Essentially, it provides temporary relief to the stresses of reality. As such, watching movies is another favourite pastime of mine, especially comedic movies. From time to time, I also watch fantasy movies like Harry Potter, and action movies, especially those by Jackie Chan.
What I Hate
I hate liars, smokers, odours, running, playing pool and horror movies. I hate to say “don’t know”, hate to feel stupid, hate to be left out, hate to be scolded, hate to do the wrong things(because I’m quite a perfectionist), hate to sweat.
The reason why I strongly dislike watching horror movies is mainly due to fear, as I might be unable to sleep at night or even have nightmares after watching them. But I really cannot understand why some people actually love watching horror movie. Where’s the point in spending $7 to purchase a movie ticket to scare the souls out of yourself? But I will of course respect their personal preference as long as they don’t force me to watch one!
Strength V.S. Weakness
I can really think of many weaknesses but I can’t think of any strengths. So it’s fairly obvious that my weaknesses include a low self-esteem. I’m weak in languages, especially in the English Language. As u can see, my English is far from good. When you see an entry with perfect English, you will definitely be able to see that it has been edited prior to posting. To add to that, I don’t know many things. I cannot swim, cycle, play pool, run, take nice pictures, ice-skate and roller blade. I’m unable to communicate well, and hence possess poor social skills. I’m weak physically and have an unhealthy body that falls sick every now and then. (I’ve experienced 3 cases of sore throat and coughs this year.) Because of my active inner self, my body cannot withstand it at times and thus I fall sick.
However, sometimes, I can say that I’m quite strong emotionally, but it really depends. I usually have big reactions towards small matters or changes, but can keep my cool when major problems crop up. For example, when I was in secondary 3, I fell sick during the end of year examination period. I went to see a doctor, who diagnosed that I was down with a throat infection. Even so, I continued to study and take my examinations for one whole week. After having my final paper over and done with, I went to see the doctor again, who then informed me that I had contracted the dengue fever! From there, I was sent to the hospital and thankfully, I survived. Miracles do happen sometimes. Surprisingly, I was still able to clinch the 8th position in school despite my illness during that period of time. I strongly believe that my determination played a huge role in ensuring my success. During another major examination, I was faced with some relationship problems. Another miracle happened. I was able to persevere, even with the pain in my heart. Thanks to that, my results were able to remain as well as they should!
However, all the above happened at least one year ago. As for now, I cannot promise that I can be as strong emotionally. I might even be significantly weaker in terms of my mental health. I’m easily hurt and saddened, but what I know for sure is that I will be able to recover fast.
A new life
In this 3 months, I have been trying to cope with the transition into a new phase of my life – Junior College. It may seem impossible at first, but I’ll definitely do my best to clear any obstacles before me. Eventually, I’m the only one who holds the key to my destiny. =)
“Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my own. I’m the force, I can clear any obstacle before me or I can be lost in the maze. My choice, my responsibility, wins or loses, only I hold the key to my destiny”
(p.s. This article is the edited version. So my original version is not as good. Thus, please do not think that my engllish is good. Because it is the total opposite!)
